The Bengaluru Police recently busted an inter-state mobile robbery gang. More than fifteen people are said to be part of a gang, the majority of whom are from Kerala.
A report in The Times of India states that an investigation into an unclaimed courier box has led to the Bengaluru police recovering 52 stolen mobile phones worth over ₹10 lakhs. The investigation began on October 24 when an official of a courier company reported that a parcel sent from Bhadravati to Kochi had gone unclaimed. Repeated attempts to contact the sender went unanswered, raising suspicion.
“After registering a complaint from the courier, we carried out the mahajar procedure before opening the box. Inside, we found 10 used mobile phones,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police S Girish.
Following the discovery, police traced and detained Sreenivas, the sender, from his residence in Bhadravati. Police records revealed that he was earlier arrested in Bengaluru and Bhadravati for mobile phone theft, during which around 100 phones were recovered from him.
Based on Sreenivas’ confession, police arrested his accomplice Shafiq and seized another 32 mobile phones. A total of 52 mobile phones with a value of over ₹10 lakh was recovered.
